Look at first sight” – an exhibition of paintings from the memories of Silawit Poolsawat at first sight.
“I like to draw faces of girls I don’t know because the face is an important point that can stir up a lot of emotions, and there is a mysterious charm to it. However, that’s just an outline of feelings because I will add details that I like or what I think is right. The portraits I draw do not have to be as realistic as they look. They may be filled with traces of the passing of time. Soft sunlight in the morning until the gloom of the night makes us see impressive images that both the eyes can see and the heart can feel,” said Silawit Poolsawat, a famous portrait artist who has impressively defined the concept of his artwork.
For this latest solo exhibition “Look at first sight”, Silawit has devoted his powers of talent and limitless imagination to creating more than 20 paintings for everyone to feast their eyes on. This series of paintings is filled with the beauty of Asian women in the way that he finds attractive. They are both sweet, warm, and gentle, but they also ooze strength, decisiveness, calmness, and coolness reflected in their eyes and faces. The artist has drawn these young women from the first impressions of his favorite Chinese movies and novels combined with a unique ideal beauty and has also added complexity to make his work more dimensional. The series becomes even more interesting with traces of various brush techniques and the powerful textures that the artist draws from abstract works of art and prints. Such works are even more accentuated under warm tones and definitely eye-catching with fresh paint down on some points. Over and above that, his intentional painting on the creamy linen canvas is consistent with the idea that he wants to reflect on nostalgia as well as the style and technique he wants to present, too.
