KARMS
KARMS Thammatat Saithong (B.1996) is a Thai artist based in bangkok, Thailand.
He has been drawing cartoon characters from a young age to adolescence and has adjusted his styles as he grows older. From what he drew only as cartoons have now become more expressive drawings, using color, composition, light, and shadow to directly display what he wants to say. Being the kind of person who analyzes everything in detail, especially “humanity”, every piece of his work tends to be inspired by both the surroundings and the inner beings. To illustrate, he looked at a pineapple and applied it to a character by giving him eyeballs around the head. This also included his use of narcissus flowers. Let’s just say he is passionate about approaching situations, environments, and people on a spiritual level. Karms’ work oozes a feeling of inviting people to find and gain something according to how each and every individual will feel.
Karms’ art is drawn from his head and heart through the tip of a brush into a painting himself. Character adaptations have been reinterpreted by his toying with distinctive elements, blending them with communicative meanings. He has employed techniques for using light and shadow to create dimensions of the image according to the feeling of the moment, choosing the color tone to suit the situation of the mood of the picture. These are all through thought processes, experiences, and skills that have been accumulated over the course of a lifetime. In addition to drawing which he has to do on a regular basis, another indispensable activity is talking to people. He believes that it is the collection of important raw materials that will lead to further improvements in his work. He is the kind of person who is quite easily affected by the impact of what is around him, no matter how small the matter is. It is these details that he keeps as fuel that bursts into works as if to shout to the world about these great little things.
Karms often describes his art as “Everything is Karms.” Of course, he is referring to humanity.
