UOY MA I This is the solo exhibition by the artist who created “Mamuang”, a cartoon figure of a cheerful, cute girl who has earned a hugely popular reputation in Thailand and Japan.
Trendy Gallery in collaboration with River City Bangkok is proud to announce a solo exhibition by artist Wisut Ponnimit
This exhibition dubbed “UOY MA I” (Pronouns as “I AM YOU”) is about self-reflection as a result of seeing something different. Your perspective on life is sometimes impacted by how you see the world. Wisut uses the ordinary habit of looking in the mirror to have the audience reflect on their own lives and to connect them with Mamuang.
You will get to know Mamuang in a more intimate way than ever with large paintings of Mamuangs looking at herself in mirrors in different postures at various moments; from waking up in the morning to wandering in her dream world. This is the largest painting of Mamuang that Wisut has ever created.
What is so special about this exhibition is that you will gain the extraordinary experience as if you see yourself reflected as Mamuang in the paintings. You can even imagine Mamuang saying to you, “I am you.”
In addition to the paintings, Wisut invites you to consider what kind of you is mirrored in the paintings. Let the artwork enchant your imagination, and don’t forget to photograph yourself as Mamuang. It’s a lot of fun for the holiday season, especially Christmas and New Year’s!
