Art Studio is just a name – it’s actually an experimental lab.

This is how “Noppawong Baothong” (Thai ,b.1982) views his own art space.
As a result, he is an artist who regularly produces his work in a variety of formats. And every piece of his work has a signature of his being an “experimenter”, meaning that the uniqueness of each piece comes from the artist’s splash of his artistic skills by repeating and thinking until it comes to fruition. Each important work tells the stories of each situation perfectly in its own way.
Because art does not mean the pursuit of perfection but the storytelling from the inside until the work comes out.
Noppawong is an artist who has been interested in science for as long as he can remember. As such, he created art with a scientific way of thinking. In fact, he has started drawing for as long as he can remember as well. During middle school, however, he poured all his attention into science until the great crossroads of life appeared in front of him. That was when the entrance exams suddenly demanded that he study art even without any strong artistic background. At first, he was admitted to the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University. When practicing painting until he was good enough, he enrolled in the Faculty of Paintings, Sculptures and Prints, Department of Thai Arts. His experimenter’s blood drove him to practice through trial and error. And then he submitted his work to a contest called “Bualuang Painting” and won a bronze medal. During the financial need, it was another turning point that made him realize that his work was able to generate income for himself. Since that show, he has participated in more and more contests and has won several awards until graduation, aiming to become a full-time artist.

The public acceptance of his work has given him both physical and mental strength, as well as the wherewithal to sustain his life. These factors have helped him to ceaselessly create art pieces.
If you look closely enough, you will find that his work, with a passion for experimentation, has been mixed with a potpourri of methods like that of an alchemist. He is able to use minimal patterns and the psychological use of colors in storytelling seen in films through techniques accumulated over a decade. He is able to bring everything in the world together into a work that reflects the roots of the Isaan Thai home, which is what he holds as the cornerstone of every work. Although his works tell stories and use different methods, one thing he has never taken out of his job is “Thainess”, which mocks the universality in every molecule of his work.

Noppawong’s art is what clearly characterizes and possesses him on a spiritual level, that is to say, “a person who adheres to his roots without being docile.” When you get to know this artist’s work, you might accidentally call it scientific research, a reasonable possibility.
