MRKREME

“MRKREME” or ‘Andy’ Varagun Chongthanapipat (born in 1993), a Thai-Hong Kong artist who fell head over heels for the enchantment of art since childhood. Rewind to the moment when decisions about university majors loomed, ‘Art’ was an option that seemed uncertain and precarious in the eyes of many. Andy faced societal pressure nudging him towards a more ‘secure’ professional path. However, fueled by his passion for art, he sought a career that could still allow him to indulge in the joy of drawing – Industrial Design. Determined to follow this unconventional path, Andy furthered his studies at Pratt Institute, delving into the realm of Industrial Design (MID) for his Master’s degree.

Andy embarked on his artistic journey by diving into the world of art toys in 2019. Balancing university studies and investing his own funds, Andy took the bold step of setting up a booth to showcase his unique art toys. As fate would have it, his creations caught the eye of a talent scout from a Taiwanese art toy production company. This unexpected twist opened doors for Andy, leading to collaborations with numerous brands. Subsequently, he ventured into the realm of street art, unleashing his creative prowess on the urban canvas. Falling in love with the art of storytelling, Andy began weaving narratives on the backgrounds of his characters. From the strokes of his brush to the perspectives and diverse concepts, Andy found a new avenue to express and reflect his views through art in a different light.

Andy’s artistic abilities and his extensive portfolio of street art have established him as a well-known and respected figure among art enthusiasts. However, during the widespread outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, Andy found himself unable to venture out and create art in various public spaces. Undeterred by these challenges, Andy redirected his focus towards the creation of art on canvas. Embracing the versatility of this medium, he began crafting a series of artwork on canvas, showcasing his unwavering passion and commitment to his craft.

Moreover, Andy has orchestrated numerous exhibitions and showcases across diverse countries, spanning the United States, France, and Singapore. Notably, the “Timeless Muse” stands out as his inaugural solo exhibition, marking a significant milestone in his artistic journey.
